\n \n Adem Kaner was born on February 5, 1924, as the second child of Ahmet Kaner\u2019s four children, in a poor family. At a young age, he took on the responsibility of supporting his family and, after finishing primary school, was directed by his father to work with a tailor. During the several years he spent as the tailor's apprentice, his interest in fabric and weaving rapidly grew, and his potential in this field was recognized. Shortly after, his interest in fabric led him to the yarn industry, which is the fundamental building block of fabric. After gaining experience in the sector, he decided to enter the yarn business and took his first entrepreneurial steps in this field. <\/a>\n <\/h4>\n

\n \n By 1940-41, Adem Kaner had further developed his interest in yarn, collecting starch yarn and delivering it to women weaving fabric in nearby villages. During this period, when Cyprus was under the British rule, all products were distributed through a rationing system. At that time, textiles such as sheets and towels were woven at home, and Adem Kaner sold these handmade products in towns, which are now modern-day cities. Over time, Adem Kaner was able to deliver these products to a wider customer base and began selling woven goods at markets established on the 15th of each month around the CMC mining site, where many Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots worked. During this period, miners were paid every 15 days, and these markets became vibrant trade centers with a variety of products on offer. Adem Kaner utilized this opportunity to support the women producers and provide high-quality handmade textiles to the miners' families. <\/a>\n <\/h4>\n

\n \n By 1958, with the savings he had accumulated from the fabric business, Adem Kaner rented a garage-type shop in the Yenicami district of Nicosia, Cyprus, where he started selling products like fabrics and yarn. Still under the British rule in Cyprus, he expanded his business by importing women\u2019s fabrics from England, marking his first steps into the retail industry. With this initiative, Adem Kaner not only expanded his imports and grew his business but also introduced new, high-quality products to the local textile market, laying the foundation for his retail career. <\/a>\n <\/h4>\n

\n \n The youngest child of the family, Vedat Kaner, born on June 17, 1937, completed his high school education and started working with his brother, Adem Kaner. In 1959, Vedat Kaner married Emine Kaner, and in the same year, together with his brother, they founded "Adem Kaner and Brother Ltd." which continues to exist today. The first store of the company opened in 1959 at the Ye\u015fil Gazino in Arasta, the oldest shopping district of Nicosia. Until 1963, bigger shops were opened and operated at stores on Evkaf\u2019s \u0130plik Pazar\u0131 Street and under the M\u0131s\u0131rl\u0131o\u011flu Apartment, one of the most famous buildings of the time in Nicosia's shopping districts. These stores primarily sold imported women\u2019s fabrics and a small amount of ready-to-wear clothing. The customer base consisted of Israelis, Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, and Turkish soldiers stationed in Cyprus at the time. This period became a significant milestone in the commercial life of Cyprus and the growth process of Adem Kaner and Brother Ltd. <\/a>\n <\/h4>\n

\n \n By 1963-64, the two brothers opened a new store opposite the Saray Hotel in Nicosia's heart. In this store, a wide range of products including upholstery fabrics, carpets, men\u2019s fabrics, Czechoslovakian crystal chandeliers, and English wall-to-wall carpets were introduced. This diversity further expanded the customer base of the stores. The two brothers began directing their savings both towards trade and land investments. The trust and harmony between Adem and Vedat Kaner played a significant role in the growth of their business, and this strong foundation paved the way for future generations to successfully take charge of the business. Their father, Ahmet Kaner, and their sisters, Huriye and Vesile, also supported them in their entrepreneurial activities, contributing to the family's commercial successes. <\/a>\n <\/h4>\n

\n \n Throughout the 1970s, the company expanded, with branches in almost every district, duty-free shops at ports, and dealerships for many cigarette, liquor, and fabric brands. During this period, the Kaner family grew into a company engaged in international trade with many European and Arab countries, especially Turkiye and England. <\/a>\n <\/h4>\n

\n \n In 1973, they opened their first multi-storey store on the Old Kyrenia Street (Girne Caddesi) in Nicosia. In this store, they created a retail model inspired by what they saw in England, and expanded their product range to include cosmetics, ready-to-wear clothing, lingerie, gifts, fabrics for both women and men, carpets, upholstery, and curtains, laying the first foundations of a department store in Cyprus. Many generations who lived during that time, and who are still alive today, remember this store as the place where they fulfilled all their needs when getting married, and it is fondly recalled for the importance that Adem and Vedat Kaner placed on customer satisfaction. \n \n In 2012, Kaner Group secured import and distribution rights of Coca-Cola for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. With its expanding distribution network and product portfolio, the company went on to consolidate the distribution business in one location and purchased a 20-acre land to start the construction of the Logistics Center, the largest project in the company's 50-year vision. In the second half of 2012, the company entered into an agreement with Domino\u2019s Pizza, the world\u2019s number one pizza brand, and brought the first fast-food chain operating under its own name to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Subsequently, stores were opened in Gonyeli in 2015 and in Famagusta in 2020, introducing pizza lovers to the global brand. Since its opening, Kaner Group\u2019s Domino\u2019s Pizza locations have consistently received 5 stars in annual manufacturing inspections conducted by Domino\u2019s Pizza International and continue to operate in compliance with Domino\u2019s Pizza standards. <\/a>\n <\/h4>\n
